# Set up ImmigrationLayer in Claude or ChatGPT

Add one address to your AI assistant. Each step below shows where to click. Setup takes a few minutes.

## Before you start

- The server address is https://immigrationlayer.com/mcp. No API key needed.
- Four tools are free and need no sign-in. Fees, processing times, Visa Bulletin chart dates, and alert search need a plan.
- On a plan, sign in with the same email address you used at Checkout.

Server URL: `https://immigrationlayer.com/mcp`

## Set up in Claude

Works in Claude on the web and in the desktop app.

1. **Open Customize, then Connectors.** In Claude, open Customize and go to Connectors. On the web, that page is claude.ai/customize/connectors.
2. **Choose Add custom connector.** Select Add custom connector. If you see + Add first, select it, then Add custom connector. ImmigrationLayer is not in the Connectors Directory, so you add it by its address.
3. **Paste the address and select Add.** Name it ImmigrationLayer and paste the server address. Leave the advanced settings as they are. Select Add. If Claude shows Continue instead, select Continue, keep a sign-in option (not No sign in), then select Add.
4. **Sign in with your Checkout email.** Free tools work without sign-in. On a plan, Claude opens the ImmigrationLayer sign-in page. If it does not, select Connect next to ImmigrationLayer in Connectors. Enter the email you used at Checkout and select Send login link. Open the email and select Sign in to ImmigrationLayer. The link works once and expires in 15 minutes.
5. **Turn it on in a chat.** In a new chat, select the + button, then Connectors, and turn on ImmigrationLayer. Then ask a question, for example: "What is the current edition of Form I-130?"

On a Team or Enterprise plan, an Owner adds the connector first, in Organization settings, then Connectors. Members then find ImmigrationLayer in Customize, then Connectors, with the Custom label, and select Connect.

The Claude Free plan allows one custom connector.

## Set up in ChatGPT

Use ChatGPT on the web with developer-mode access. Business requires an admin or owner; Enterprise/Edu requires workspace permission. Availability depends on your plan and workspace settings.

1. **Turn on Developer mode.** In Settings → Apps → Advanced settings, enable Developer mode if your account has access.
2. **Create an app.** Choose Apps → Create. Workspace admins can use Workspace settings → Apps → Create.
3. **Name it and paste the address.** Name the app ImmigrationLayer, paste the URL, and select OAuth to connect your paid account.
4. **Scan tools and sign in.** Select Scan Tools. On the ImmigrationLayer sign-in page, enter the email you used at Checkout and select Send login link. Open the email and select Sign in to ImmigrationLayer. Back in ChatGPT, select Create.
5. **Use it in a chat.** In a new chat, select ImmigrationLayer from the tools menu before asking for a check. For example: "What is the current edition of Form I-130?"
