Answers to common questions about connecting, plans, sign-in, and our data. ImmigrationLayer is not legal advice.
Common questions
How do I connect my assistant?
Add this server URL in Claude or ChatGPT: https://immigrationlayer.com/mcp. No API key needed. In Claude: Open Settings. Go to Connectors. Choose Add custom connector. Paste the URL and save. Your AI app may ask you to sign in. Use the same email address. ChatGPT steps are on the Connect page, immigrationlayer.com/connect.
Which tools are free and which need a plan?
Four tools are free with no sign-in and no plan. They are Check form edition, List form changes, Get Diversity Visa lottery cutoff, and Get Visa Bulletin advisory notes. The other four need sign-in and an active plan: Get filing fee, Get processing time, Get Visa Bulletin chart entry, and Search alerts.
What does the Practitioner plan cost and how do I cancel?
Practitioner costs $49/mo + tax. Billed monthly until you cancel. Cancel any time from your account page. Access continues to the end of the paid month. Fees already billed are non-refundable except where required by law.
My sign-in link did not work or expired. What do I do?
Sign-in links expire after 15 minutes and work once. Request a new link.
Does it work in Cursor?
Cursor cannot sign in through the connector flow yet, so it reaches the four free tools only.
Where does the data come from and how current is it?
We check the tracked USCIS form pages, USCIS newsroom alerts, the USCIS fee schedule (Form G-1055), and the Federal Register API daily. Visa Bulletin data is loaded by hand each month; automatic checks are disabled. Processing times are loaded by hand from USCIS's published processing-times data and dated with their own `as_of`. Neither manual source is checked daily.
What do you store about me?
Tools take form numbers, categories, dates, and countries, never names, A-numbers, or other case data. Our database does not store tool arguments. REST API calls carry their arguments in the URL. Our API server's logs keep that URL for 7 days, and Cloudflare's request analytics keep REST API paths for 31 days. The Privacy page lists the personal information kept for sign-in, billing, email, and request logs.
Is this legal advice?
No. ImmigrationLayer is not legal advice. It gives an AI agent a dated, cited answer about form editions, fees, processing times, and the Visa Bulletin. The verification duty for a filing sits with the attorney or filer, not with this tool (ABA Formal Opinion 512, 2024-07-29).
Are you affiliated with USCIS, DHS, or the State Department?
No. ImmigrationLayer is an independent product. It is not run by, endorsed by, or affiliated with USCIS, DHS, or the Department of State. It reads each agency's own public data and cites the source and date behind every answer.
How do I report a wrong or outdated answer?
Email the support address at the bottom of this page. Include the form number, the tool you used, and the source link from the answer. Do not send case details or personal information.
